What Does “Census Day” Mean?
For the
1930 census, the designated “census day” was April 1, 1930. That meant that
all answers to all questions on the census were supposed to give information
that was valid on April 1, 1930.
Enumerators
were allowed to take up to two weeks to gather data in cities and other
incorporated places which the 1920 census had counted at having 2,500
inhabitants or more. In all other districts they had up to 30 days to
complete their work. Nevertheless they were expected to ensure the validity
of information with respect to the April 1 date. |
