Gregory Pomicter, NARA College Park, MD: "Electronic Scrapbooking." — The lecture will demonstrate one way to collect, organize, and preserve family history documents and pictures in an electronic format. It also discusses the advantages and challenges in disseminating and preserving electronic media. |

Horace Waters, NARA Waltham: "Finding Your Ancestors in Maritime Federal Records." — Using Customs, Coast Guard, Bureau of Marine Inspection, and Fish and Wildlife records, Horace examines what information on our ancestors is available and, using a case study based on his family research, how to find our ancestors. Examples include 19th and 20th century crew lists, fishing licenses, whalemen’s shipping papers and master mariners’ licenses. |

Linda Blaser, Conservator, National Park Service: "Preserving Your Family Papers." — Linda will give us specific information and techniques for preserving our family documents and photographs. |

Jean Nudd, NARA Pittsfield: "Navigating the Bureaucracy: Using Federal Websites." — This lecture presents five free Federal government websites and tells researchers what types of records and what specific information they can find in these databases. It also examines where additional resources can be found to support the information contained on these websites. |

Registration:
Registration fee for this conference is $70.00 (per person) if completed by August 29, 2008. After August 29, the fee will be $85.00 per person. Your registration includes the morning coffee and muffins as well as the lunch and afternoon beverages and cookies. Friends’ members get a $15 registration discount ($55 per person before Aug. 29; $70 after Aug. 29).

About the Speakers:
Gregory Pomicter
Greg is the Assistant for Operations, Office of Regional Records Services, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). He is responsible for coordinating the activities of the Regional Archives of the United States and various records management and administrative functions of the Office of Regional Records Services. During his twenty-six year career with NARA, Greg completed NARA’s two-year archivist training program and has worked in various management positions at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis and at NARA’s regional facilities in Chicago and Philadelphia before moving to the Washington, DC area in 1985. Greg received a B.A. degree from the University of Missouri- St. Louis and a Masters degree from St. Louis University in mathematical management science.
Horace Waters Horace has worked for the National Archives, Northeast Region for over six years. He is a frequent lecturer at the National Archives and Records Administration in Waltham, where his presentations include such basic topics as census, naturalization, and passenger lists, as well as the local history of Waltham, Cape Cod, and Martha’s Vineyard. His expertise includes New England 19th and 20th century maritime history, mid-19th century tax records, and New England naturalization records. He is a 10th generation New Englander with ancestors arriving in the from the 17th through the 19th centuries. A member of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, the National Genealogical Society, and the Society of American Archivists, he has over twenty years experience in genealogical and historical research in New England, New York, Michigan, and Colorado.
